I was recently in Detroit and was amazed at the various pockets of beauty and dilapidation. One such pocket held this stunning light, installed only one year before the stock market crash of '29. The mental juxtaposition of such a grand display of wealth and beauty knowing what was shortly to come after completion, combined with its continual survival in a city built on grit, moved me to take the shot.
